Russia remains the Czech Republic's most important oil supplier and the Minister of Industry is now negotiating with South Korea on the expansion of nuclear power plants.
Most of the crude oil that flowed to the Czech Republic in 2024 again came from Russia. However, the share of Russian oil is decreasing. This is according to data from the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ), as reported by the ČTK press agency on Monday.
According to the data, 2.7 million tonnes of crude oil were imported from Russia to the Czech Republic last year. Although this was 42 per cent of total imports, it was also 37 per cent less than in 2023. The expansion of the TAL pipeline is expected to further reduce the Russian share in the future. The TAL Group operates the Transalpine Oil Pipeline, which transports energy from the port of Trieste to refineries in the heart of Europe.
