Futures market

  • On the last trading day before tomorrow's public holiday, the futures market for electricity is quiet and not very active. Trading activity is noticeably reduced - not only due to the holiday period, but also due to existing uncertainties in the wake of the international trade conflict.

The market started today with a slightly higher opening price for the lead contract at EUR 83.40/MWh compared to the previous day. Over the course of the day, the price moved sideways and stabilised at a level of EUR 83/MWh.

Fuels and CO2

  • The natural gas market was calm and directionless on today's trading day. Market participants pointed to the lack of clear impetus. Without new geopolitical developments or weather-related surprises, no major price movements are currently expected. The LNG price in Asia has recently fallen - this could lead to rising demand there in the medium term and influence the global market. The price for the coming delivery year is currently quoted at EUR 33.50/MWh.

  • The CO₂ market is currently taking a wait-and-see approach and is hovering at the previous year's level. Prices are currently quoted at around EUR 65 per tonne, which indicates a phase of orientation and restraint among market participants. A slight increase was recorded on today's trading day: Prices were slightly above 66 EUR/t at times. Despite this rise, the market lacks clear impetus for a sustained upward or downward movement.

Spot market and general information

  • Today's auction for Good Friday resulted in an average price of 89.96 EUR/MWh for Austria and 87.90 EUR/MWh for Germany. For the coming week, an average price of around 76.50 EUR/MWh is expected for Germany. Solar production is expected to increase slightly in the coming week, while the wind forecast is expected to fall significantly.

    Note:
Due to the public holiday tomorrow, the next market analysis will be published next Tuesday.
We wish you and your families a happy and relaxing Easter!
